An overview of this trip would be summed up by daily activities of sea kayaking, hiking, flight seeing, fishing, sightseeing, and relaxing. Enjoy the comfort of the Prince William Sound Lodge with gourmet meals and nice, "rustic" accommodations. This trip is led by a Pangaea naturalist guide and hosted by the friendly lodge owner.
This is a high end vacation, offering the best of Prince William Sound. We cut no corners and offer your group first class service with an experienced staff and well-organized itinerary. This option is particularly good for a family or father/son group who would like a diversity of activities and an option to participate (or not) in each. The lodge offers activities for all ages and excellent private accommodations.
Day 1 - Meet in Valdez for an introductory lesson on sea kayaking. Start the trip with a day of sea kayaking among the icebergs of the Columbia Glacier. Catch the afternoon water taxi across the Valdez Arm to the Lodge. End the day with a tasty welcome dinner and relaxing evening at the lodge.
(Lunch) (Dinner)
Day 2- Explore Ellamar with a day hike. If the season allows, we'll pick berries for upcoming meals. Ellamar is the historic site of an old copper mine and remote fish cannery. Today there are still a few remnants of the era to explore. If you've secured your fishing license, you have the proper equipment with you, and the timing is right, you can wet a line from shore or shove off for a peaceful evening salmon-trolling mission in your kayaks. Upon return to the lodge, enjoy the culinary mastery of the lodge host.
(Breakfast) (Lunch) (Dinner)>
Day 3-Â After a homemade breakfast, catch an impressive flight-see of some of the local alpine terrain and glaciation. Enjoy a picnic lunch and then spend the afternoon kayaking right from the front deck of the lodge out to Bligh Island for some more remote exploration. Return to the lodge in time for a sauna session and yet another yummy meal.
(Breakfast) (Lunch) (Dinner)
Day 4- Anyone interested in fishing will get an early start and head out toward the Gulf of Alaska for a day of halibut fishing (unless it's August, which is a great time to go silver salmon fishing). If you do not want to fish, the kayak guide will take anyone interested in a paddle up Tatitlek Narrows for another great paddle. The lodge will also be available for a day of relaxation. (Breakfast) (Lunch) (Dinner)
Day 5-Â After breakfast, milk your final moments at the lodge before launching in your kayaks to the north. Paddle along an impressive coastline in the direction of Galena Bay, a pretty spot known for viewing sea stars, spawning salmon, and bald eagles. We'll be picked up in the afternoon by the water taxi for our victorious trip back to Valdez.
