It would even be better if lunch could be provided even with a bit extra cost. The afternoon trip can be extended a bit as well, 40 min kayaking after lunch is a bit less. read lessJingru L7/24/2020

However, Trevor was a great tour guide and prepared us for our trek to the waterfall. If you have enough money I would do the glacier one, that's what we hope to do at some point (but it was not in our budget). read less262cats7/06/2020

Wonderful small boat ride to glacial beach. Intermediate kayaking skills suggested to avoid ice and other kayaks. Wear warm layers good when wet with glacial silt and rain. Bring hot tea/cocoa for lunch break. Hard to pee in gear. Highlights were the booming, crashing, snapping of glacier ice above/around us, drifting along w seals and otters, poking small ice shards, hot shower once home. July 6. 55 and rainy. Despite raingear, all were wet, cold, excited, happy, exhausted. read lessW9S7/13/2020

We have never taken a guided tour and were very pleased with our experience. The captain Tim was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, the ice was very thick so getting close to Columbia was out of the question due to safety concerns. It provided us a unique opportunity to explore a recently exposed bay area that was filled with icebergs. The guides Seth, Natan, Dan, and Nadine were excellent with leading us through relatively new territory and providing a unique and fun experience. We would overwhelmingly recommend them to anyone looking for an adventure in the Valdez and Prince William Sound area. read lessG9393DHsylviaw6/26/2020

All of our fellow tour guide buddies recommended kayaking Columbia Glacier but using Pangea specifically. Our guide, Natan, was rad and full of fun facts and our captain, Tim, was equally as phenomenal and chill. We were lucky enough to see a humpback whale, otters and seals just on our way to the glacier but several more seals once we were out kayaking. It’s incredible how thick the ice was, especially coming out at low tide, and how often you could hear the cracking and calving of the glacier. Solid group that was fun to hang out with after next door at The Fat Mermaid to celebrate a vitally eye-opening experience. read lessoahuparachutecenter7/30/2020

The morning of our adventure, Valdez was wrapped in a blanket of fog. We grabbed our lunch from Safeway on our short walk over to the Pangaea tours location. Upon arrival, our tour guides introduced themselves to us, made sure we would have anything we could possibly need to keep belongongs dry, and ensured we would be dry and comfortable for the next 8 hours. Then we hit the restrooms, and walked over to the charter boat where we loaded up, had a safety briefing and were on our way out into the fog. The captain is excellent, very knowledgeable and kind. The tour guides themselves are also great! Our guide was Nadine. Once we got out to the shore from where we launched our kayaks, the fog lifted and revealed the beautiful, glacier carved Shoup Bay. We kayaked up the bay, taking in the incredible views and observing wildlife in their natural habitat. It was smooth and easy kayaking up to the glacier where, once we got close, we navigated the bobbing remnants of glacial calving -- ice ranging in size from softball to queen bed. We landed our kayaks on the glacier shore about 100 yards from the physical glacier, where we secured them and stretched our legs, took (more) photos and basked in the presence of such incredible scenery. Once it was time to go, we launched from shore and took a slightly more adventurous route back to the pick up point. On the way back, we traversed some fast flowing, rough waters of a bottlenecked part of the bay. That was my favorite part! It was challenging and exciting to control the kayak at a fast pace, and it felt much more interactive. I am glad we didn't do that the entire time though because man! my arms were on fire when we got back to Valdez! Eating dinner was tough but it was worth every ache and pain. I highly recommend Pangaea. They showed us an unforgettable experience! Super affordable too! read lessMattyB_traveling8/03/2020

Sam (guide) took a self-deprecating comical approach to teaching us about safety and what we should expect on our journey. Along the way on our ride out he and Tim (captain and owner) shared facts about Valdez and the Columbia glacier. We arrived and hopped in our boats and paddled around to get our sea legs. Sam then led us through a couple of spots on our way to lunch. Post-lunch we continued our journey into the ice field. Sam's caring demeanor and extensive outdoor experience (NOLS graduate) ensured that our family had a great time. We could have spent a bit more time in the large ice field, but afterwards we all realized how unsafe that zone is. We would definitely return for another tour! read lessDave K.8/28/2010

Our hotel recommended Pangaea as the way to go but when we arrived there we saw that all the kayaks were enclosed, not open like our previous kayaking experiences in S.America and Hawaii.
Megan was terrific. No pressure. She walked us over to the dock, we checkout out all the possibilities and then she left us in the hands of Eric, who helped us try out different kayaks. Unfortunately, none were comfortable for our backs and we chose to pass BUT we were so impressed with the time they both took and the lack of any pressure.
I can only imagine how accommodating they would be on one of their kayaking tours so I would recommended them without any hesitation and if Eric is available, grab him. read lessAlan R.6/18/2013

Usually the minimum group size is 4, but they took out a smaller group (3 people total) because it was the first day of the season. Our guide, Seth, was great, and the company's owner, Tim, was our wonderful captain. Both offered lots of good information about the area and were very flexible and accommodating. We had extra guides-in-training along who were helpful to us, too. There was no way of predicting what the ice would be like, and unfortunately it was a little too impacted for our kayaks to make it around the corner to see the glacier, but later Tim motored the boat to get us good views of the glacier face and surrounding mountains. It was a cloudy day but we still got some good views, and the clouds create better colors for the icebergs, anyway. Also saw many otters, some seals, bald eagles, etc. along the way. Tim has outfitted the boat with some additional protections for COVID (plexiglass dividers in the cabin, etc.) Note that it will be hard to maintain 6 feet of distance and the boat ride is long (2+ hours), but everyone wears a mask on the boat! Overall a highly organized and professional outfit, creating a perfect day trip. read lesslynneam20166/18/2020
