The following positions and their minimum qualifications are listed below. Keep in mind that these are just the minimums and our hiring standards are quite stringent. Pay scales will be supplied after resumes are received.
-Internship
Whether you are looking for college credit or not, this internship position is going to get you into the guiding field. Motivated interns will get a taste of all aspects in working for Pangaea Adventures from office work, to assistant guiding, to maintaining gear, shuttling guests, and tackling projects. First aid and CPR certifications are the minimum, while Wilderness First Responder certs are preferred. The goal of an internship is to learn as much as you can in a summer so that if you show skill and confidence, you can return to become a lead guide. This is not a vacation. Expect to work long hard hours just like the regular staff. We pay a small stipend.
-Lead Sea Kayak Guide
Solid knowledge of kayak strokes, self and assisted rescue techniques and a knowledge of currents and tides are required. Lead guides must have a guiding and/or extensive teaching background. First year lead guide will start with day trips but can quickly move into kayak camping trips as they show an understanding for the local paddles. Lead guides will also have the opportunity to lead the other types of trips we offer should they show the right skills and motivation. Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certifications required.
-Lead Raft Guide
Lead guides must have experience guiding class III+ rivers with a commercial raft guiding outfit. Wilderness First Responder and Swiftwater Rescue Technician training are also required. We run paddle-assisted stern-framed oar-rafts down the class III Keystone Canyon of the Lowe River.
-Lead Glacier Hiking Guide
Lead guides must have a minimum of a Wilderness First Responder / CPR. Prior glacier travel and/or ice climbing experience is preferred. Lead guides must have a guiding or extensive teaching background. Lead guides also have the opportunity to lead sea kayak trips and glacier day paddles. All new guides must be willing to go through our training program upon hiring.
-Office Manager and Assistant Office Manager- (Customer Service & Program Development)
The office manager and a potential assistant must be interested in working in the outdoor tourism industry. The position runs from mid May through mid September. We encourage this person to arrive in early May so as to join the guide training. Office personnel must be personable and willing to answer phones, sell trips, take reservations, manage very detailed client and guide schedules, assist with shop organization, organize groups, deal with direct customer contact, work on product development, and assist the guides with trip preparation. Prepare to work closely with the owner in a small office. She or he should have strong organizational skills and must be highly motivated and self directed. The office is small so there will only be one to two people in the office at any given time. This is a fun atmosphere and one of the finest physical settings on earth. We are looking for someone who wants to stay involved with Pangaea Adventures for more than just one summer.
We are looking for the following skills and experience:
Typing skills, strong writing skills, Apple systems familiarity, Word/Pages/Google Docs, Excel/Numbers/Google Sheets, Quickbooks, basic website maintenance and a willingness to learn. Basic organization, sharp attention to details, and good communication skills are very important. Call for more information. First Aid and CPR required.
-USCG Licensed Captain (25 ton Masters or higher)
Pangaea Adventures operates two USCG inspected motor vessels as water taxi’s for the sea kayak tours. The position runs full time from early May through mid September. Applicants must have a current captains license and all required certifications including first aid, CPR, and TWIC. Enrollment in our random drug testing program is mandatory. The captain must have an interest in naturalist interpretation. This is not a fishing boat.
