Sampler 3 Day Alaskan Wilderness Lodge Based Itinerary

Day 1 - Meet at Pangaea Adventures in Valdez for introductions and instruction. We will then load onto the motor boat for a ride out to the Columbia Glacier area for a day of sea kayaking. We will sea kayak for 2 hours before enjoying a picnic lunch on the glacier's moraine, and then we will paddle another two hours before riding the motor boat to the Lodge. Treat yourself to a sauna after a tasty meal.
(Lunch - Dinner)

Day 2 - Wake up to a hot breakfast and then enjoy one of the many optional activities. Many people choose to kayak to Bligh Island or up Tatitlek Narrows and/or take a long hike into the rainforest.

Here are some optional activities for this day that require an additional fee:

-Flight seeing over the Columbia Glacier
-Sea kayaking Glacier Island with the sea lions
-Go out on a fishing charter for halibut or salmon

Please inquire if you're interested in any of these options!

Enjoy an evening stroll through the forest surrounding Ellamar and return just in time for another tasty meal.

Day 3 - After breakfast, milk your final moments at the lodge before launching in your kayaks to the north. Paddle along an impressive coastline in the direction of Galena Bay, a pretty spot known for viewing sea stars, spawning salmon, and bald eagles. We'll be picked up in the afternoon by the water taxi for our victorious trip back to Valdez.

   What Our Clients Say

The tour was outstanding by any/all measures – story telling, knowledge of the facts and information, attention to safety, etc. I was really impressed by [the guide’s] level of knowledge of the site, the overall operations, the specific functions of the buildings we toured, and the equipment we looked at.

Copper Oar and St. Elias Alpine Guides exceeded my expectations. They helped me fulfill my dream of plein air painting on an extended wilderness trip. Their high level of professionalism, knowledge, and skill coupled with the right equipment led to a safe, comfortable trip.

I enjoyed my guides’ and fellow travelers good cheer, humor, companionship, not to mention the tasty meals. I am planning on returning for more adventures with St. Elias and Copper Oar.

What an amazing experience, life changing too. Let’s start with our guides – where do you find these Supermen/women? We’ll never forget our first meeting with Lucas, beaming enthusiastically from the airstrip. He’s just such a great guy and a great guide and we heard the same compliment from a lot of other people too. He looked after us and worked so hard to ensure that we had a good time. We always felt safe with him, enabling us challenge ourselves and really get the most out of our trip.

All of our expectations were more than exceeded! Gaia was more than helpful in organizing our flights to McCarthy, she organized free transport while we were there to visit the mines, She gave us a bedroom free of charge in the power house. She simply tried harder. Gaia was very quick replying with emails… very detailed emails too!!

The whole Copper River Rafting Trip trip was totally amazing, each day was spectacular! The knowledge, skill and professionalism of the guides in each area each day was very interesting. The spectacular “Groover” scenery each day was awesome. The food was way better than we expected too… It was camping with luxury food and the worlds most scenic camp sites each night.

But the main thing was forgetting about regular life, not seeing anyone or any cars for the whole week. Thank you to Gaia, Nik and Jake for making it a special time away for us. We have been away from home in Australia for almost a year now and this has been our most special part!

It was all I expected and more. … Andy and Gaia were both super friendly and informative, and if all of the staff is just as awesome I would expect all of your trips to be just as great. You will see me again in the future!

The planning was exquisite! Gaia helped me plan the day trips at Kennicott, including the mill tour and a day hiking on the glacier. We loved Noah and the day we had just as a family walking on the Root. She also helped us with booking the plane from Chitina (which included telling us where to park our car), booking the Lodge, picking us up in McCarthy, and arranging the dates for the raft trip, etc. I felt like a had an experienced travel agent! And I don’t even think travel agents understand the needs of an adventurous family. She was great and made the trip easier, with no hassle at all, a true vacation for all. I would definitely 100% recommend to other families.

Just a quick note of appreciation for the entire Source to Sea trip. The trip was awe inspiring, Danny, Dale and Jules were extraordinary, and the travel companions were a lot of fun. I feel so lucky to have been able to participate on such short notice. […] Thanks again for making an amazing journey possible.
