This 4 day kayaking tour is designed for anyone with a sense of adventure and ready to paddle amongst the wonderful marine life of the Prince William Sound. We will have the chance to paddle through the ice of Columbia Glacier and on to the peaceful bays of Glacier Island. Novice and beginner paddlers are welcome.
Note: The 4 day trip has one more day of paddling in Columbia Bay than the 3 day trip. We really love speding the extra day out in the area and feel the 4 day trip is one of our favorite mid range trips.
Day 1: Meet in Valdez at our shop in the morning for a safety briefing and orientation. We will board our water taxi for the magnificent cruise out to Heather Bay near the spectacular Columbia Glacier. Here we will embark on our journey through the towering icebergs to a magnificent island overlooking Columbia Glacier – the largest tide water glacier in Prince William Sound. As we paddle away from Columbia Glacier we will keep a look out for numerous marine mammals, possibly seeing harbor seals, sea otters, and perhaps a glimpse of an Orca whale. Tonight we will make camp in Heather Bay and settle in for some for magnificent kayaking recipes cooked by our guides.
(Lunch) (Dinner)
Day 2: We depart Heather bay in the morning to go and explore Columbia Bay. We cross through the main channel of ice escaping over the glacier's moraine. It is common to see large groups of sea otters or Harbor Seals hauled out on the ice. Explore the western coatline of Colubia Bay with a visit and possible camping in Granite Cove. We have even had the chance to watch transient Orca hunting seals in the area.
Day 3: After camping we're off towards Glacier Island. After a hot breakfast we may take hike before departing south. With Columbia Glacier to our backs we will make the crossing over to Glacier Island. There are numerous bays to explore on the north side of the island plus numerous hikes and beach combing opportunities. We may climb one of the spectacular ridges giving us wonderful views of Naked Island and Columbia Glacier. The elusive snow covered peaks of Montague Island may even come into view. Our guides will provide another fine meal before a much deserved sleep.
(Breakfast) (Lunch) ( Dinner)
Day 4: An early start will lead us around the corner of Glacier Island to Bullshead. Here we will find a colony of Stellar Sea Lions which can be seen feeding, sleeping and swimming. These great mammals were once thought to be extinct. As you learn about these magnificent creatures be on the look out for Puffins and Cormorants which inhabit the rugged caves along the coastline. We stop at one of the most fabulous beaches for lunch and a hike up through the rainforest. After lunch were off to Chamberlain Bay for some more exploring before we are picked up and taken back to Valdez.
(Breakfast) (Lunch)

Date Notes:
Dates may not be up to date and other dates may be available. Please feel free to contact our office if you have any questions.
Price Notes:
The water taxi ride to and from the Columbia Glacier region requires a minimum of 4 passengers. If the camping tour does not reach the 4 persons to fill the water taxi minimum and there are no day tours to share the water taxi, then the guests signed up for the camping tour must cover the minimum charge. The price could be as high as $110 each direction per person. This very rarely happens.
Private Trips: To reserve a private trip with less than 4 guests (where you want to keep the group less than 4 guests) we charge a private rate equal to 4 guests.
