Overview:
Not Just for Families!
Meet in Valdez. This trip is designed for families with younger kids who are not up for open water crossings or long days of paddling. We use a motorboat to move camps from Columbia Glacier to Glacier Island.
Day 0 - We like to have groups meet the evening before each trip to meet the guides and make sure everyone has everything they need for the trip.
Day 1 - Meet at Pangaea in the Morning to get organized and experience the safety talk and lesson. We load all of the gear onto a motorboat for the scenic boat ride out to Columbia Glacier. We set camp and take in the sights of Heather Bay. We venture right into the ice for some afternoon paddling. Absorb the tranquility of heather bay with the sounds of crackling ice, loons calling and surf scotters zooming across the calm waters.
(Lunch) (Dinner)
Day 2 - Wake up to a hot breakfast and gear up for a day of gentle paddling and a great walk in the forest. The kids won't be the only ones enjoying the wildlife and flora (including carnivorous flowers!), When was the last time you walked in the bogs with rubber boots on your feet! Another night at the same camp.
(Breakfast) (Lunch) (Dinner)
Day 3 - After breakfast we break camp and climb aboard the motorboat that arrives around 11:00. We will get transported to glacier Island and our next campsite. We will spend the afternoon exploring the inner waterways of the island which offers a completely different atmosphere than Columbia Glacier. It is a great change for everyone to have a new campsite to explore.
(Breakfast) (Lunch) (Dinner)
Day 4 - We pack up camp and head out in the kayaks to explore the outer coast of glacier Island to paddle with the sea lions (weather pending). Keep an eye out for Puffin and other local sea birds. We may be treated to the sight of feeding Humpback whales or passing Orca. The motorboat will pick us up around 4:30 for the ride back to Valdez.
