Columbia Glacier Kayak & Wildlife Cruise
10 Hours Tour Cost - $229
Guides Choice Offering the best wildlife, the best paddling in icebergs and incredible scenery. Columbia Glacier is Alaska's second largest tidewater glacier. Since the early 1980's, the glacier has been retreating catastrophically off of the terminal Moraine leaving an 8 mile long field of floating ice in front of it. On this kayak day tour, we get dropped off close to the moraine of the glacier to go sea kayaking into the icebergs. We take a lunch break and a short hike on the glaciers' moraine. After the break we continue exploring the coastline by kayak The water taxi will bring us back to Valdez after 5 hours of activity.
Here is how the schedule works on this 10 hour trip.
Hour 1 - Gear up and Instruction
Hour 2-3 - Motorboat water taxi ride to Heather Bay
Hour 4-5 - Kayak from the boat along the coastline and to the Moraine of the glacier
Hour 6 - A one hour lunch break on moraine overlooking the ice filed
Hour 7-8 Two more hours of kayaking back out of the ice to the motorboat pick-up
Hour 9-10 The ride back to Valdez
This tour is offered 7 days a week! We use Stan Stephens Wildlife Cruises as our water taxi on various days throughout the summer. Larger groups may request to use Stan Stephens Tour boat in advance! We use our own USCG inspected water taxi on other days.
Don't want to Kayak? We would be happy to book your trip aboard the cruise cruise. Only $160 per person. This is a great way to spend the day with your friends and family who do want to kayak. Minimum of 3 cruisers on a trip otherwise cruisers may choose a Stan Stephens Cruise.
