If you just want to get out on the ice and try one or two climbs, this is a good option. A short hike to the glacier where the guide sets up a rope and offers ice climbing instruction. To be honest, unless you're seriously strapped for time, you should opt for the full day climb.

Ice Climbing Itinerary:
Hour 1: Meet at Pangaea Adventures to get fitted into boots & crampons. We take our van up to Worthington Glacier via Keystone Canyon and Thompson Pass.
Hour 2-3: Start from the parking area at Worthington Glacier State Park. A paved and dirt path leads to the toe of the glacier. Once at the glacier the guide will set up some ropes on an ice wall near by. After basic instruction, each guest will try their hand at climbing the vertical wall with the safety of the rope.
Hour 4: Since we keep snacks handy while climbing, we can pack up and go for a hike up the glacier. Some days we go to search out new climbing routes and other days we just hike to get some views.
Hour 5-6: We have more time in the afternoon to set up more ice climbing. We may return to the same wall, or challenge the group by lowering into a crevasse or moulon. Drop into the depths of the glacier and climb out with the ice tools and crampons.
Hour 7: Return to the van and relax as the van heads back over Thompson Pass and through Keystone Canyon back to Valdez. If we have time, we will stop for a photo opportunity of the waterfalls in Keystone Canyon. Rafters will get dropped of at Keystone Canyon for the one hour run down the river.
Note: Participants may arrange to meet at Worthington Glacier with advance notice, otherwise, everyone should meet at the Pangaea Adventures shop in Valdez.
